We are about to begin Unidad 1 of the Level 2 ¡Avancemos!
program. It focuses on authentic culture and real-life communication
using Spanish in Costa Rica. It practices reading, writing, listening, and
speaking, and introduces students to culture typical of Costa Rica.
Through completing the activities, students will employ critical
thinking skills as they compare the Spanish language and the culture
of Costa Rica with their own community. They will also connect to
other academic subjects, using their knowledge of Spanish to access
new information. In this unit, students are learning to discuss travel
preparations, talk about things they do at an airport, ask how to get
around town, say where they went and what they did not on vacation,
ask information questions, and talk about buying gifts and souvenirs.
They are also learning about grammar—personal a, direct object
pronouns, indirect object pronouns, interrogatives, preterite of -ar
verbs, preterite of ir, ser, hacer, ver, and dar.
Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns you
might have as your student practices reading, writing, listening, and
speaking in Spanish.
Sincerely,
Ms. Desiree Glover
P 3.1 Grows professionally through job-embedded learning.

P. 3.2. Enhances knowledge and skills through professional learning.
Professional learning seminars, also known as weekly faculty meetings, are not only an important aspect of professional development, but they are an essential part of "staying in the loop". During these seminars, important school-wide issues are discussed and addressed, such as testing schedules and data, attendance concerns, discipline problems, and anything else that may affect the learning environment. At times, teacher workshops and trainings are also conducted during these meetings. I attend these seminars regularly. Futhermore, I am a member of several professional organizations including FLAG and SCOLT, and ELSA.
P.4.1. Actively supports the school improvement plan.
